Week 6 - what will we do with our square metre window now?
Posted May 28th, 2008 by ballydownstudentWe have decided that we want to keep our Ballydown Square metre window. We will look at it every week still. We want it to stay over the summer to see all the changes when we are away on our holidays. We also picked another coordinate to look at and see someone elses. It was good too.

Week 6 - open day
Posted May 28th, 2008 by ballydownstudentWe invited our parents into school to tell them all about our Ballydown Square metre window.
First we went to the Hall and did a powerpoint presentation showing our parents our sections. Ann showed us her 30 sections. It looked good. Then we did some performance art and stepped into our picture using our powerpoint presentation. Then we took our parents into our classroom and up to the square metre window. It was fun telling our parents all about it. After break we had to do it all again for P2 and P3.

Week 6, P5, Allotment
Posted April 23rd, 2008 by ballydownstudentUpdate May 20th 2008
As you are aware P5 , I have not been able to follow through with your instructions and the journal updates for The Allotment piece in the way that I had intended.
I now have a back log of images on the camera and will get these up ASAP. A time thing as always !
I also ran into some practical problems in carrying out the instructions. In order to water the seeds, as you instructed, I have to open the sliding lid of the pill box. This worked perfectly until, a few days into the work, the plants themselves began to get damaged in the process. ( Read More )
Week 6, P5, Allotment
Posted April 23rd, 2008 by ballydownstudentForgive me P5, and Miss Orr - I have lots of updates to put up in the journal but cannot physically find the time - maybe this weekend.
I also want to make an alteration to the "Allotment" piece and repeat the process - if you are on for it.
I'll use the same instructions you gave me but will put 28 seeds in each compartment.I have to date been finding it difficult to get detailed enough images to put up on the journal to really show you what's going on. So I think this development should help in solving that problem.

Allotment, with P5
Posted April 23rd, 2008 by ballydownstudent" "Allotment" - This piece of work had been intended for Catalyst Arts Members show but, having misread and subsequently missed the deadline, I asked P5 if they would be interested in participating.
P5 have been given a random number between 1 and 28.
They each are responsible for prescribing the growing conditions for one "Sprouting Seed - Cress Curled", (according to Suttons ! ) within one of the 28 compartments in the pill box.The numbers within the pill box begin top left and read down in vertical columns. The columns then read consecutively across to the right.

Week 6, P4/P5, time lapse experiment
Posted March 13th, 2008 by ballydownstudentI'd promised P4/P5 I'd put a few still frames up on their journal. We had recorded two ice cubes, made by the whole class, on time lapse, but as it turned out there wasn' t enough of a melt pool to make this effective as a time lapse piece. These particular ice cubes contained too much solid matter. If we only had another week to work together ... !
So, we made a group decision not to include the video on our journal or as part of the open day work, as every exhibition is only as strong as the weakest part. However, we did want to represent the process to date and our decision.

P5 -Week 4 - Group 4 - 2 and a half metres west
Posted December 10th, 2007 by ballydownstudentThis week, Ann sent us to the Prank Patrol Table - but not on top - on the bottom! And here is a tip - never go under a table with trays, you can really hurt your head! We had to record us all doing a sound together. We did the table legs. I'm sure you're wondering what she used to record. Well she did not use her mobile, she used a microphone and a recorder. We could not make any loud noises or she would catch them with the microphone.

Posted November 15th, 2007 by ballydownstudentWe did colour blind pictures. We took group photos from the either side of the main compass points outside our school. We finished off our tin foil grid reference map. Our pictures are very nice. We drew two lines on the photos and they were two mm apart and we cut them out. We had to choose a compass direction. The strip was cut out of the photo graph and we stuck down on the paper in that direction. We then had to draw lines from the strip to match the colour and continue.
