mapping the unseen

These are most important amongst the reasons as to why I work as an artist with other people. Thank you for communicating this Robyn

time, growth and potatoes
Posted June 8th, 2009 by annhendersonLoads of visitors came to the school - parents, grandparents, friends and other family, Louise from CYP, Miss White's daddy...
I was attending virtually.
The Open Day serves as a culminant point to make public and communicate about the activity P2, Miss White and I have embarked upon together.
FURTHER AFIELD : time, growth and potatoes
Posted March 3rd, 2009 by annhenderson26th February 2009.
Back with P2s and Miss White in Ballydown Primary School, Co. Down.Miss White, Judith, and I have been fortunate in being able to establish a long and strong working relationship over the last 8 years.
We sat down to see where we could find a genuine area of common ground. This needed to excite me as an artist and also be relevant for her as a teacher within the P2 curriculum. ( read more below )

Week 5, Rathlin Square Metre, Travels Within
Posted May 20th, 2008 by annhendersonP4 and I were considering the idea of "putting ourselves in the picture". We employed different ways of doing this.
I wanted to traverse the world of the "square metre" as though an "insider" ! and so set my artificial eye to task.
P4 chose my route for "Travels Within, 2:11pm, 14th May, 2008".
My directions were to go from Coordinate A2 to J2 in a straight line.
I'm not putting up the images till after our open day, which is tomorrow,Wed 21 May,as I want P4 to have their first glimpse then.

Week 2, Rathlin Square Metre
Posted April 29th, 2008 by annhendersonWhen the sun is out ( if that makes any difference ? ) I now know the lurking places of 4 spiders and 2 millipedes.
millipede, millepede or milleped n. any terrestrial herbivorous arthropod of the class Diplopoda, having a cylindrical body made up of many segments, each of which bears two pairs of walking legs. See also myriapod (C17: from Latin, from mille thousand and pes foot) ( Read more)
The Square Metre - Introduction
Posted April 23rd, 2008 by annhendersonThe Square Metre.
When you come across someone and something that touches you to the core, what could remain undiscovered were you not to turn over the next stone ? …
A figure came into focus - the shot, up through the flowering and “podding” stems within a bluebell glade.
An unassuming voice made an astonishing proclamation,
“ I can see things that perhaps other people can’t see.”
That was me hooked ! ...

Week 4, P4/P5, Sun Time Graphs
Posted February 25th, 2008 by annhendersonWe concluded the following facts from the Sun Time Graphs :
Daylight
24hours of daylight occurs within Iceland, the Arctic and the Antarctic.
Within a 1year period, 8 to 10mths of daylight is experienced within the Antarctic.
Darkness
24 hours of darkness occurs within both the Arctic and the Antarctic.
Within a 1 year period, darkness is experienced for 9 months in the Arctic and 2 months within the Antarctic.
I find this absolutely intriguing !

Week 3, P4/P5, Light Graphs
Posted February 23rd, 2008 by annhendersonIt's been hard work today.
Well done Mrs Duke, P4 and P5.
Our audio today hasn't been good on Marratech so our communications have been strained, on top of the day being demanding by its very nature.
In hindsight, P4/P5 and Mrs Duke, it might have been better if I'd have left the light graphs till my next real visit - but then I'm just learning about using remote communications as well. I do think our poor sound quality had a huge impact today but we will hopefully be able to do something about that.
I'm really pleased with what we still managed to achieve today. Well done again.
Week 3,P4/P5, light graphs
Posted February 23rd, 2008 by annhendersonSo, we gathered information on the different lengths of daylight hours relating to range of global locations.
These locations were selected to ensure they ranged in latitude values, falling within the Arctic Circle, the Antarctic Circle as well as the rest of the globe. ( We didn't need to worry about longitude as longitudinal position bears no relation to the length of daylight hours. )
Our aim was to make visual representations of the information we'd gathered - to mark out the patterns on graph paper, the image of light and darkness for each specific location.
